Corporate writing might have more of an agenda than journalism, but it requires the same key elements – information presented in a concise, clear, but interesting style.
I am allergic to much of the cliched, jargon-infested copy that passes across our desks each day. I find it more satisfying to produce something that inspires, or even (where appropriate) gently amuses!
With 18 years' experience of writing articles to an exact brief and to an (inevitably short) deadline, I can also guarantee that you'll get what you want when you want it.
Since 2007 I have specialised in producing on and offline branded content. This involves creating products of genuine editorial quality that also integrate advertiser messages. Much of this work has been for PRWeek, including the popular Friday Drop email bulletin. I also edited an advertiser-sponsored supplement for The Guardian
I have worked on a variety of types of copywriting tasks, generally paid by the day. My rate is below that of most agencies, but takes into account the fact that you want well-researched, often persuasive copy that fits the style of your brand. I appreciate the importance of understanding how a piece of literature relates to overall business strategy, and always start a project by finding that out.
I have helped marketing agencies win awards and new business by writing documents that clearly articulate their campaigns or plans. A major UK advertising agency won a £10m account from an existing client with the help of a pitch document I created. I also wrote an entry for the Design Effectiveness Awards that resulted in the agency winning the top prize.
I also rewrote part of Unilever's corporate website, and edited the relaunch issue of Response (Royal Mail's business customer magazine, published by Brass Tacks).
Other contract titles I have written for include VM, Vauxhall's customer magazine, British Midland's in-flight title, Voyager, Better For You for the Coventry Building Society, and small business title Sage Solutions.
I have hosted media training sessions across Europe in collaberation with former Ogilvy PR md, Rob Shimmin
